Caitlyn Jenner
Role: Creative, Editor
In 2015, I got to work on Caitlyn Jenner’s coming out story. As an LGBTQ+ ally (and someone who has kept up with the Kardashians since Kim had a side part) everything came together when this brief landed on my desk.
I wrote and edited the special’s upfronts and on-air broadcast promos, helping to attract 4.2 million viewers and making “About Bruce” the network’s most-watched premiere since September 2012 — exceeding viewership of the Mad Men series finale and Game of Thrones among E!'s target audience.
After the success of the promo for "About Bruce," I made the first promo for E!'s eight-week docuseries on Jenner. With 48 hours to write and edit, I exported on a Sunday night and watched it debut on The Today Show on Monday morning. The promo attracted 4.5 millions views in first 24 hours.
Our team introduced Caitlyn to the world with pride and grace up against one of the most delicate celebrity PR stories of 2015. PepsiCo President Brad Jakeman praised the work, asking an auditorium of industry leaders, "Have we done anything with our brands that is in any way remarkable as the way Caitlyn Jenner, and that phenomenon, has been managed?" But more importantly... Kim Kardashian said it was amazing.
