Test It. Treat It. You Can Beat It.
Role: Associate Creative Director, Songwriter, Vocal Producer
This was the brief no one wanted to work on. Public health campaigns are typically subdued and easy to look past. Three years into the pandemic, I saw an opportunity to make some noise and get Californians to pay attention to our important message.
Inspired by classic public health slogans like “Stop, Drop and Roll,” I wrote a song to teach people the steps to COVID recovery. These lyrics have been chewed up and spit out by lawyers a dozen times. I learned that, if you’re desperate enough, a surprising number of things can rhyme with “test negative sooner.”
Results:
The public service banger “Test It, Treat It, You Can Beat It” just renewed for its second year. The recall rate obliterated our benchmark. People who’ve seen the campaign are 2X likelier to know their COVID-19 treatment options. The ads sparked significant increases in awareness of treatment benefits (^16%) and likeliness that someone would recommend treatments to a friend (^13%). That said, I think the BEST indicator of this song’s success is that parents and teachers have told me their kids sing it all the time.
